Michael Bond started writing about his bear from Peru with the publication of his first book, “A Bear Called Paddington”, in 1958. Since then the stories have been translated into over 40 languages and Paddington’s fame has spread world-wide. In November 2014 Paddington made his debut on the big screen, starring in his first film.
Biography
Paddington originally comes from Peru. After being orphaned as a young cub he was raised by his Aunt Lucy until she had to go and live in the Home for Retired Bears in Lima. He stowed away in a the lifeboat of a ship heading for England and landed up on Paddington Station in London where he was found by Mr. and Mrs. Brown. “In fact, that’s how he came to have such an unusual name for a bear because Paddington was the name of the station.”
Paddington soon became a part of the family and now considers the Browns’ house at 32 Windsor Gardens to be his home.
